note from Dominique

Tonight
it is very cold and it is also raining. I
can’t help thinking about those poor, Husky dogs, whom we have named Fatima
and Liela, that we had to put back on their lines and return
them to their sad destiny. But,
what can we do? Who is going to
help us, or rather, them?
The story is
so common and yet, at the same time, so tragic. A female dog who has never known what it is to roam free, has
never been warm in the cold of winter or cool in the heat of summer.
A dog who has no idea what it’s like to be regularly fed.
Who now has the company of her five month old son!!
People,
tourists, call us a few times a week to denounce the case thinking that once
it’s reported that everything will turn out alright. Again, we are a small organization and WE HAVE NO SHELTER,
so what can we do?
We tried anyway. We took
them out of that environment (lines, etc.), but unfortunately, were unable to
find a place to keep them. It
turns out that these dogs are hyperactive since they don’t know what is to
be off the line. They absolutely
can not be left alone in a closed room as they become very much afraid and
will destroy everything that is not nailed down.
They have even broken doors and they bark and bark and bark.
Needless to say the neighbors have complained often, finally leaving us
with no choice than to return them to their lines where their owner doesn’t
want them.
We shall
continue to try to find them a place where they can experience some tender
loving care and receive some education that not all the world revolves around
a chain. But who knows how long
they will last.
Again, I ask,
what more can we do???
