Some
people may wonder if PAG really
does something useful in Gomera. As an example, here are some of the
tasks that Fredrika accomplished during the first few days of May. A
special thanks to all our helping friends, who by their donations of time and
money helped make things easier. A special thanks to Manfred and Anne
from Germany, and Barry and Marylee from England. They were wonderful.
Tuesday:
Met Manfred and Anna in Playa Santiago. Spent the day with them there
and received a “guided tour” to meet the local cats. My main
quest was to catch a certain female cat in the harbour in order to get her
spayed, but after linking up with Max and Morritz at the Hotel Tecina, I
realised that the medical requirements of two
of the cats there outweighed catching and spaying the young lady at the harbor.
One of the two cat's (Moritz by name) was in the worst shape and since I only
had one carrier with me was the only animal that day, to ride with me back to
Valle Gran Rey. At the Vet clinic, Moritz, unfortunately, tested
positive for FIV and had to be "put down". I also spotted
Several cats that need tending to soon. Manfred and Anne donated 200
Euros, and Barry and Marylee donated 50 Euros.
Wednesday:
I accompanied Matajo to the airport on Tenerife. He was a very good
boy all the way. A big thank you again to Manfred and Anne, who volunteered as
Flight Sponsors and were able to have Matajo in the passenger cabin with
them. Here also, a special thank you to Helmut who paid for the taxi we
shared to the airport.
Thursday:
Kiwi, our little "sickling" was tested negative for FIV (thankfully!).
She did not get tested for Leucopenia as she doesn’t show the symptoms for
this. I am uncertain if she has a virus causing the respiratory problems.
If she does, there is nothing to do but to wait it out anyway. She is
now on medication against possible bacteria and asthma. If it is a
bacteria it should be gone in a week.
Friday:
Went back to Playa Santiago to find Max, the other sick hotel cat, in order to
get him tested as well. He was nowhere to be found, though he had been
seen earlier that
morning. I did get the harbor cat for spaying. Thank you Barry and
Marylee who met me at the ferry and drove me and the cat back to Valle Gran
Rey in the afternoon, after having showed me more cats and driven me to the
different locations.
In
the next couple of days we will have to return to Playa Santiago, free the
female cat near the harbor, look again for Max and see what can be done about
the others
Next
days,we ll have to go back to Santiago, free the female cat in the harbour,
look for Max and see what we can do with the others.
Remember,
we also need your help…
