News - 2007...Dogs Abandoned
in National Park!

September 2007
Some
time ago we were informed that two sick puppies were found and picked up
in the Garajonay National Park. It
was plain to see that they had been abandoned.
The
owner of these animals was rapidly found and was charged. Yesterday (14 November 2007) was court day.
The judge, as well as others present, was shocked when he saw
pictures of the animals and a guilty judgment was soon handed down.
The
type and degree of the punishment will be announced at another time and
we are very curious as to what that punishment will be.
We think it will be a heavy fine.
We
are hoping that this will set an example to others that they should
think two or three times before they abandon any more animals.
We
will report again just as soon as the punishment is announced…..

Update...(February
2008)
We have just gotten word that
the punishment was as follows... 30 days at € 10 per day (€ 300) as well
as the Vets bill of €100,80. As we have stated before, the local
government and courts are starting to take an interest in protecting the
animals of the Island. Hurrah!!!
