On Thursday, 30 April, Pro Animal
Gomera (PAG) was informed by a resident of Valle Gran Rey that a goat
had climbed up the cliff just across from the harbor and got herself
stuck. She could neither go forward nor backwards. A tourist tried
to rescue her the day before and was himself stuck, such that he,
himself, had to be rescued by helicopter. All emergency numbers were
called, but none could help because of the precarious and dangerous
position the goat was in.
After a very long week-end and many
telephone calls, many tries by many people, along with a TV report,
the situation on Monday had not changed. The goat had not moved.
Nereo Darias, the President of PAG, had many meetings with
representatives of the local governments as well as the Seprona, in
order to save the poor animal. Since it was clear that the animal
would not live very long without food and water on that cliff the
authorities thought about shooting the animal. This did not appeal to
any of the Animal Protectors present.
On Tuesday, 6 May, more attempts to
climb the cliff were made by different people to save the animal, but
still to no avail. We are still awaiting a miracle…
Even the local press picked up the
story and wrote about the Goat. The following links are in Spanish,
but do tell the tale:::

Update...
Since no way or method was found to get
the goat off of the cliff the poor animal was shot by a hunter on the
7th of May to avoid unneccessary suffering for her.
