Pro Animal Gomera: Basta de promesas, queremos hechos

Gomeraverde - La Gomera / Ya comenzó el verano y por supuest o han aparecido los primeros abandonos de animales. Y la pregunta sigue siendo la misma ¿Para cuando un refugio en la Isla? A pesar de las promesas de nuestros Ayuntamientos y Cabildo en la reunión del 27 de febrero en el municipio de Hermigua, PRO ANIMAL GOMERA NO ha recibido desde entonces ninguna llamada, ningún correo, ningún gesto que demuestre el mas mínimo interés o iniciativa para resolver este problema.

La consejera de turismo del Cabildo ha recibido  un informe sobre la situación de los animales en la isla y el impacto que tiene sobre nuestros visitantes y por supuesto NUESTRA economía. Desde principio de año se han recogidos mas animales que en todo el 2008. Se han atendido más llamadas que nunca pidiendo ayuda. Pero las autoridades siguen con su mutismo. Si los animales fueran coches viejos nuestros dirigentes se merecían  encontrárselos aparcados y amontonados  delante de sus  Ayuntamientos. Por  desgracia son seres vivos y tienen unas necesidades básicas diarias tanto físicas como afectivas, necesidades que parecen ignorar nuestros políticos.

Estamos cansados de albergar falsas esperanzas. Si el refugio de animales no esta en sus planes que lo digan abiertamente. Que no nos engañen más a la protectora y los vecinos... Que digan ya claramente que les niegan a sus votantes un servicio al cual les obliga la ley...Y por favor, que no nos pidan tener paciencia... Demasiada paciencia hemos tenido en todos estos años de lucha...Paciencia han tenido todos estos animales maltratados que siguen encadenados...Paciencia han tenido los perros abandonados que siguen vagando por las carreteras... Paciencia han tenido los turistas que denuncian una y otra vez con la esperanza de mejorar la situación...

Creemos que es hora de que los Ayuntamientos y el Cabildo CONCRETEN  ya. No mas promesas, no mas burlas...Queremos hechos. Pro animal gomera tiene cada día mas apoyo de los vecinos pero esto no basta. Sin refugio no llegaremos a nada. Por eso  les  pedimos a todos los gomeros dolidos por el sufrimiento de los animales o afectados por los abandonos que nos ayuden y alcen su voz en la calle, en sus lugares de reuniones, en sus ayuntamientos...Que pidan explicaciones, que exijan que se cumpla la ley... No se puede esperar mas...El verano acaba de empezar y los problemas se multiplican.

 

 

Translation of the text "Basta de promesas, queremos hechos!", published by GomeraVerde 11.07.09     PRO ANIMAL GOMERA:  Enough Promises, We want to see Action…   The Summer has just started and, without fail, it’s happened again, animals being abandoned.   And the question is again asked:  “When will there be an animal shelter on the Island?”   In spite of the promises made by the Island government of La Gomera and the separate communities during a meeting on 27 February 2009 in Hermigua, the animal protection association, Pro Animal Gomera has, to date, received no telephone calls, no E-Mails and no sign of interest in coming up with concrete solutions for the problem.  The government representative responsible for tourism was made aware by letter of the animal problems of the Island as well as their effects on the visitors to the Island as well as their impact on business (source of income).  Since the beginning of this year, more animals were taken in than during the whole of last year (2008).  One had more calls for help as never before.   However, the authorities continue to remain silent.   If these animals were old cars our leading citizens would have deserved it when the cars were stacked up in front of their city halls. However, these are living creatures with daily needs that need to be satisfied that are apparently being ignored by our politicians.     These constant delays are hurting.  When their plans do not include an animal shelter, then they should be open and say so.  Enough of empty promises, which try to put off the animal protection organization as well as the Island citizens.  Therefore, the politicians should tell their constituents that they won’t even think about fulfilling this part of the law.    Also, “Please”… No further requests for patience on our part.  We have patiently fought much too long.  The mistreated animals that are still tied on chains have also proven their patience.  The abandoned dogs have shown their patience when the wander the streets.  Tourists have also shown their patience when they constantly complain to the authorities about these things and hope for an improvement of the situation.   We believe that it is time for the communities and the Island government to state concretely where we go from here.  No more promises and no more delays!   We want to see action!!!   The assistance that Island inhabitants receive from Pro Animal Gomera has been increasing.  However, without an animal shelter the association is pushing its limits.     So we ask all Gomeros, that are also touched by the fate of abandoned and mistreated animals to help.  Help wherever possible, regardless whether on the streets, at home, by activities, or at the city hall.  Bring the subject up, demand explanations and demand that the government follow the law.  This waiting has got to stop.   The Summer has just started and the problem has doubled and tripled…
