Playa de Santiago: Control
of Feral Cats Near the Harbor through sterilization!
For the past few days the animal
protection association Pro Animal Gomera (PAG) have been trapping
cats in the vicinity of the harbour of Playa de Santiago, bringing
them to the animal clinic in the Island capitol, San Sebastian to
have them sterilized.
This action by the animal protection
organization is intended to help minimize diseases and keep the
population of these half wild animals under control. The
background of this action stems from the many complaints of the
residents as well as tourists received by pro Animal Gomera.
According to a PAG representative, the
animal protection association has met twice with the community
representatives without reaching any acceptable solutions.
Sterilized cats have been, and will
continue to be, returned to that place where they were captured.
