Chipude!!!

Return

The following picture depicts a lone dog on a short chain, The tourist who sent us this picture stated that no food or water was in evidence and the dog was very skinny.  Itīs hard to tell from the picture, but it doesnīt look like there is any sun shade in the area.  As far as we know this situation is still the same today as it was when the pcture was taken.  However, we have forwarded this picture and the above scanty details to the appropriate authorities.

If, during your visit to the Island, you find this situation or any other like it, please report it to the "Guardia Civil", or the "Seprona" (Nature Police) at "062" or the local Ayuntamiento (city government) or, failing that, then let us know through our contact number.

Finally, the police went to Chipude (or more precisely, Pavon) and had a look at that poor black skinny dog. Surprise!!!  He is not alone.  Behind him, where nobody can see them, three other dogs share that terrible life.  The Seprona acted very well and cited the owner. PAG also had the owner written up at the local Guardia Civil.  The problem though is not yet solved...  Where do we put the four dogs?  Will the owner be that mean that he takes his anger out on the dogs and hurts them?  That is, unfortunately, something we cannot prevent...

We are at present, trying to find foster home for those dogs but it won t be easy...  The Ayuntamiento (local government) of Valle Hermoso should be the authority who takes care of the problem.  The law states that it is their duty, but as it seems to happen on the rest of the Island, we do not believe that they will...

On the 20th of June, Pro Animal Gomera (PAG) will meet again with the owner of these dogs.  This time in court.  We are sincerely hopeful that the judge will decide in favor of the animals and lets the owner know that this type of action will no longer be tolerated on this Island.
