During
the second week of September (2006), an older gentleman came into the Pan y
Fun store in Valle Gran Rey and requested help from the Pro Animal Gomera (PAG)
folks. Seems
that somebody had thrown five kittens into a water reservoir, presumably to drown, and
the couple (the man and his wife) were a little too elderly to jump in after
them. A member of PAG accompanied
the gentleman to the scene and noted that one of the kittens had already died,
but the elderly lady was working real hard with a bush branch to keep the
remaining four afloat. The member
was able to “rescue” the four and hurried them home to dry them off and
make sure that they were alright. They
were a little afraid (shy), but seemed to have really survived their ordeal.
We have just learned that all four passed away, one by one this past
week. Most likely they still had
water in the lungs which caused an infection.
This just goes to show that even though we try hard, we cannot save
them all.
